Buying Motorcycle Protective Gear
Buying a motorcycle can be a great experience. Motorcycle riding is a great way to release adrenaline and enjoy the open air feeling of the highway. Keep in mind that you should always make sure you have adequate protection, before you ride. Protective motorcycle gear is very important, as you do not want to be physically injured during a motorcycle fall. According to insurance companies, most motorcycle riders will be involved in at least a single accident in their lifetime. Motorcycle falls can be extremely dangerous, if not fatal. Be sure to buy a proper fitted helmet, which is either DOT or Snell certified. Certified helmets offer greater protection due to the fact that they are rigorously tested to high standards. Avoid buying retro or vintage old-school helmets. These helmets may look great, however they do not protect you as well. Full faced motorcycle helmets offer greater protection, by ensuring that your entire head is covered. A properly fitting helmet will move no more than a single centimeter on your head. This is extremely important in minimizing the risks of head and spinal injuries from motorcycle crashes. Motorcycle accidents are more likely to occur during dawn, dusk and nighttime riding conditions. Make sure you buy a brightly colored helmet, whenever possible. Avoid buying black helmets as they are hard to see and spot by other motorists. Keep in mind that many times, drivers do not check their blind spots for motorcycles. By wearing a brightly colored motorcycle helmet, you can increase your chances of being spotted. Never buy a used helmet under any circumstances. You do not know whether or not the previous helmet owner may have abused their motorcycle gear. Keep in mind that even small tumbles can affect the physical rigidity of your motorcycle helmet. This can mean the difference between life and death in the event of a motorcycle accident.
